Habitat: Found growing in forests, swamps, ravines, or riparian areas; most frequent and numerous in moderately to strongly base-rich soils. Frequent to common in the mountains and piedmont; infrequent in the coastal Plain.

Wildlife value: Flowers attract pollinators and seeds attract birds.

Notes: Long bloom time; aggressive spreader
